Back gallery: SHANNON LYONS (WA) - SHUFFLING SLOWLY TOWARD THE EXIT

Opening - 5:30 PM - Wednesday, 7th July

Artist Talks - 6:00pm

Running - 8th July 2016 - 23rd July 2016

Shannon Lyons is a Perth-based artist who attempts to visually 'unpack' the complex relationships that exist between artistic content and context in her multidisciplinary practice. Lyons continually adapts, draws from and responds to specifically located built environments, producing works that directly reference the site where they were made, or are eventually exhibited.

Shuffling slowly toward the exit is a new site-responsive architectural insertion that calls into question the pre-existing architectural particularities and specificities of the FELTspace Back Gallery. In essentially ‘pasting’ part of another exhibition space, Fontanelle, over the walls of the Back Gallery, Shuffling slowly toward the exit efforts to reflect and highlight both the architectural particularities of Fontanelle, and the specificities of the FELTspace site. In doing so it is hoped that the local audience may see these two familiar spaces anew.

Taking elements from one gallery space and reconstructing or reinterpreting them within another is an ongoing strategy for making within Lyons’ practice, and is consistent with her commitment to the contemporary discourse of site-specificity within art institutional environments.
