Like I’m Apart - Steven Cybulka (SA)

Opening - 6:00 PM - Wednesday, 1st of April

Artist Talk - 5:30 PM

Running - 1 Apr 2015 - 18 Apr 2015

My work focuses on site responsive sculptural installations, that explore how the transformation of spaces and manipulations of form can affect the viewers' emotional state. By constructing installations from abstract forms, I create immersive compositions that evoke emotion and engagement from the viewer as they experience the space.

The process of construction for the work begins without a specific, predetermined final outcome or design, with meaning and inspiration being found instead within the act of making. This allows complete freedom for the work to evolve organically through my intuitive response to the space. Crafted through struggle, meditation and letting go, this process of creation results in each installation being unique to the space in which it was created.

Steven Cybulka is a sculpture/installation artist from Adelaide, South Australia.

Having completed a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Applied Design at Adelaide College of the Arts in 2013. He is currently undertaking his Honours year at the South Australian School of Art, Architecture and Design at the University of South Australia as a sculpture/installation major, and was also appointed as the inaugural Adelaide Festival Centre/ SALA Artist-In-Residence at Adelaide Festival Centre for 2014.

He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions, been commissioned to create installations for private companies and recently been involved in several projects that explore the transformation of space.
