CELIA DOTTORE
DIVINE MANTRAS FOR EARTHLY MATTERS

Celia Dottore is an artist, curator and writer based in Naarm/Melbourne. She works primarily in the field of contemporary jewellery, often utilising found and collected materials to explore concepts of memory, ritual, superstition and sentimentality.

Inspired by religious art and philosophy, Divine mantras for earthly matters investigates the role and relevance of sacred objects and secular rituals to our modern lives. In an increasingly complex and chaotic world, these playful and decorative works speak to the power of mysticism and manifestation as a means of managing the more earthly matters of daily life.

Layered with history, memory and connection, web-like altarpieces or wall hangings are designed to capture magic and harness the healing powers of the universe. Alongside a series of wearable cosmic tools, reminiscent of divining rods or slingshots, enable the wearer to pinpoint and channel energy on the go.

Created through mindful and meditative practice, this work considers what shapes our individual belief systems, patterns of behaviour and ways of being in the world.
