Opening: 6th June

Exhibition: 7th - 23rd June

Berndt’s video projection investigates to what extent digital processes might produce different ways of seeing and perceiving the image space.

“The tyranny of the photographic lens, cursed by the promise of its indexical relation to reality, has given way to hyperreal representations—not of space as it is, but of space as we can make it.”

In response to the quote from artist Hito Steyerl’s writing, Berndt’s video projection ‘Collision Level’, interrogates the digital image and its potential to foreground the principles and mechanisms of image perception and construction. Working with collage, movement, colour and speed to expand and modify the visual content of the moving image, the work proposes to investigate to what extend digital processes might produce different ways of seeing and perceiving the image space. This inquiry into the digital image space, and editing technology questions how the human body might either be defined by, or incorporated into its immediate environment, and to what extent digital video can produce a blurring of the representational boundaries between the body, its context and digital technology.
