Feltdark: DANNY JARRETT (SA) QUEER MODDITIES

games create spaces with unlimited ways of playing and representing people. However, video games often continue to perpetuate problematic hegemonic heteronormativity. Inspired by 90s cartoons and 70s queer shock cinema, Queer Moddities explores the potential for game modification as a form of resistance. This bizarre narrative work follows the disgusted adventure of leather daddy Mr. X as he hacks cats and homophobic protestors into queer gender-bent characters. Together will this trio will bring down heteronormative society?

Danny Jarratt is a recent UniSA Honours graduate exploring queer placemaking to create work that questions heteronormativity. Within his practice, he uses digital mediums including film, video games, and digital painting, together with sculptural forms to create immersive and vibrant spaces. He focuses on creating interactive work which encourages social behaviors to facilitate casual conversation about queer theory and minority representation in digital media. Jarratt has upcoming solo exhibitions at Haunt Collective Inc. (SA) in November and Kings Artist-Run (VIC) in February.
