erin linhart (qld) - a little more suffering

back Gallery: 3rd - 19TH october 2019

A Little More Suffering responds to the word solastalgia, a new word coined by philosopher Glenn Albrecht describing “the feeling of distress associated with environmental change close to your home.” This multidisciplinary exploration uses text and the body as dramatic yet humorous vessels to reflect current universal concerns and local ecological events. By meditating on this accurately dark yet ironic word; it demonstrates the audacity of humans despairing because of their own (un)doing.

The selected staged photos are recreated poses from historical theatre, opera or natural disaster sources. These interchangeable expressions from both fiction and non-fiction sources cannot be told apart; the connection between drama and reality can be interchanged to form a new but relative narrative, connecting the past, present and future of the Anthropocene.

BIO
Erin Linhart is an emerging visual artist and poet based in Meanjin, Brisbane, Queensland. Her practice is an evolving multidisciplinary exploration, drawing inspiration from life events, observation and environment to narrate nostalgia. Erin questions the human condition to capture an emotional response to untraditional or traditional forms of beauty. Through deconstruction and investigation, she navigates sentiment, tragedy and humour of the past and present; enabling transcendence into the contemporary and fictionalised histories that she is creating.
