FRONT GALLERY: JEN MATHEWS (VIC) - CITY OF FUTURE EXCESS

Opening - 5:30 PM - Wednesday, 7th December

Artist Talks - 6:00pm

Running - 8th December - 24th December 2016

It seems impossible to imagine a future living space, which does not simply repeat the grim echoing mistakes of the past. What are the governing symbols of aspiration of a future city? They will be constructed from the excess waste of a city past, present and future.

The practice of luxury will always embody a fraudulent space, relying upon discreet imitation, unable to ever achieve an affiliation with ‘nature’ that is not automatically debased or distended.

City of future excess deconstructs the veneer of contemporary lifestyle and culture, a culture that is built upon symbols of aspiration, power and success.
