VIRTUAL MEMORY - JESSA KLOEDEN (SA)
‘For memory, we use our imagination. We take a few strands of real time and carry them with us, then like an oyster we create a pearl around them.’ – John Banville
We create memories with technology, yet the programs and hardware simply store them in 0’s and 1’s. They impact us with feelings of nostalgia, adventure and fond memories of the nameless stranger. There is a relationship between myself and the online world that isn’t easy to put into words. Perhaps it is the anonymity that helps me connect better, maybe the comfort of being alone, but not lonely. I use games to escape elsewhere, and even if I am seen sitting in the same position for hours on end, I have had countless trials and journeys in my head. This is a story about how we are made human by our connection, and how the online world helped me connect.
