As a circumstance of encounter, on / off circle emphasises the complex nature of human connections, intersections and interactions. With a focus on ‘bottom-up’ processing and non-verbal gesture, the body as a site is explored in it’s capacity to attune and respond to the environment in which it is emplaced. Viewers are invited to participate, and enter the meditative spaces offered by each sculptural form, using themselves and other participants as a gauge in sensing varied and social proximities.

Through perceptual and sensual interactions with the works, a complex and unscripted system of social rituals and conventions surface: a call and response of cues and miscues at play. With this specific attention to the senses, on / off circle offers an embodied encounter of human phenomena that are simultaneously simple and profound: anxieties hovering over interactions.
