ABOUT THE RESIDENCY
A pilot initiative for early to mid-career artists of Asian-Australian descent based in South Australia.
This is an opportunity to undertake a Summer Residency with FELTspace and Smoking Fish Studio, to culminate in two public programs.
The successful artist will be granted the space and time to independently experiment, make work and/or rest. Your proposed project can be a work in progress, in development, or in its final stages.
You are invited to use this residency time however you like, but be aware it is within a fast paced environment of a cafe and retail space. We are looking for artists who are self starters and can take initiative.
We encourage artists to have an open studio during their residency, but we understand different artists work differently. We prioritise proposals from artists who have a strong focus on experimental practices, concepts and/or materials. This opportunity is for a studio residency only and no accommodation is provided.
The chosen artist would have undertaken at least one artist residency, have had at least two solo exhibitions in a formal arts exhibition space and/or have had a significant body of work that reflects that their practice has developed and grown within the last five years.
ELIGIBILITY
Only South Australian artists of Asian descent are eligible.
Must be able to commit to using the residency spaces with a recommended minimum of 2 days per week.
Must have had at least two solo exhibitions in a formal arts exhibition space and had undertaken at least one artist residency.
Open only to early career and mid-career artists.
Open to solo artists or collectives.
Open to all experimental art forms and disciplines - however please understand it is within a gallery and a cafe/retail space (which may not be suitable for certain mediums).
Personal public liability insurance is required.
SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS RECEIVE:
$3000 artist fee plus 12% superannuation
A fully funded residency within the CBD, between FELTspace and Smoking Fish (between four to six weeks, to be discussed with successful applicant)
