LOOPED NARRATIVE

Looped Narrative is a video work that documents a semi-fictionalised archive of remembered moments from cinema. Project participants each recount a film scene that is meaningful or memorable to them. They also recount a scene from their own memories or imagination that seems as if it could be from a film. These narrations are staged in a way that leaves some ambiguity as to which is which. The artwork invites the audience to picture these moments as they are being recounted, and to reflect on their own equivalent memories. Looped Narrative is a cumulative work, and this iteration includes footage from Cuba, Mexico and Australia. It reflects on the ways in which cinema serves as a platform for making and sharing worlds, and how multiple people having viewed the same film might build a connection from that shared experience. It also looks at how the seemingly endless digital database of cinema contrasts with the wispiness of human memory.
