WHERE DO MY WORDS COME FROM?

Where do my words come from? is an experimental visual essay that interconnects language and writing with sensorial exchanges in public space. By applying multiple layers of cultural exchange —through site specificity, image, sound and text— Where do my words come from? questions maternal language and the relevancy of translation. Utilising ambient noise from Albuera, Leyte, Philippines and the lingering noise of Tartanya-Adelaide’s Central Markets I am most interested in creating opportunities to embody language and culture whilst reimagining how we read mother lands and motherhood.

By bringing these images and text together, within the confines of a small space yet viewable from multiple dimensions I hope to create a new discursive platform for mothertongue language to be expressed and read. Communicating the nuanced relationship between diaspora communities and the culture and language we try to understand from lands afar, this project is an attempt to revalue language and the written word in the public realm.
