200 White Cubes (striped) - Tom Borgas

Opening - 12:00 AM - Wednesday, 15th of January

Artist Talk - 5:30 PM

Running - 15 Jan 2014 - 1 Feb 2014

Although conceived through a hands-on engagement with materials and processes, encounters with sculpture and installation are often limited to a spatial relationship with static objects in a particular space. 200 White cubes (striped) presents a vividly immersive installation of discreet sculptural units as a physically digital field for 'users' too manipulate/interact with. The activation of this project is dependent on a collective, networked intervention- its structural regularity begs to be modified, disrupted, reconfigured.

Referencing structural and aesthetic of cues borrowed from digital systems as an interface, this installation initiates a shift from viewer to 'user'- from consumer to creator. It rejects riparian passivity in favour of a haptic interaction with sculptural data.

FRONT GALLERY: TOM BORGAS (SA) - BARRIERS IRL

OPENING: 6TH JUNE
RUNNING: 7TH - 23RD

Beginning as a proposal for a public art work where concrete barriers are dropped from a great height using a crane truck, Barriers IRL revisits this idea within the context of a gallery– reshaped by the agency of site and media.
